Rural Youth Empowerment Project|
Volunteers for Development Association in Uganda (VODA Uganda). As children progress higher in classes, scholarstic demands increase. In addition HIV/AIDS has robbed of this community the energetic young parents who leave their young children under the guardianship of their grand parents who have grown old and weaker.
The above has led to a high number of school drop outs and subsequently, young girls marrying at an early age, migration to urban centers where they are greatly exploited sexually. The result is increased HIV infections and orphandhood.
Once young people are empowered, they can lead a self sustaining life. This can achieved by the involvement of the community, family units, religious institutions and support groups in the community. This is what VODA Uganda seeks to achieve in this rural community.
