Conferences at the Jane Goodall Institute, "Two Spaniards and 141 Chimpanzees, the challenges facing conservation in the Congo"

Our beneficiary, The Jane Goodall Institute, invites you to the conferences that Rebeca Atencia and Fernando Turmo are giving about their primate rescue and rehabilitation work in the Republic of the Congo. In addition, there will be a presentation of the Movilízate por la Selva (Action for the Jungle) campaign.

Rebeca Atencia, a veterinarian from Galicia and Director of the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Sanctuary, will share her valuable experiences in chimpanzee rescue and rehabilitation at the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Sanctuary in the Republic of the Congo. In her talk, she will tell us from first hand experience about the problems affecting African ecosystems and the animals who live in them as well as the challenges of reintroducing the animals into the jungle. And, Fernando Turmo, Communications Coordinator for the Jane Goodall Institute the Republic of the Congo, will show us the education and development projects that are being carried out in local communities to deal with the problems faced in the conservation of chimpanzees and their habitats. Additionally, the Jane Goodall Institute will present the “Movilízate por la selva” (Action for the Jungle) campaign for recycling mobile phones to protect African ecosystems and help the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about the reality of the Congo through the experiences of two Spanish people working on the ground and join up to participate in the projects they are carrying out.
